Bhavna Ramsurun
AssociateBhavna’s expertise rests in diverse facets of corporate and competition law, financial regulatory matters but also deals with fund regulation advising in the setting up of closed-end funds and collective investment schemes with transaction value of up to USD 450 million.
Prior joining BLC in 2009, she has worked on major transactions such as assisting in providing advice to the World Bank on corporate governance laws in Mauritius for the purpose of the Report on the Observance of Standards and Codes (ROSC); acting for various international companies and sophisticated investors in relation to acquiring shares in Mauritius companies .As part of a transaction involving a group of companies in the petroleum sector across various African countries, she has advised on the acquisition of a majority stake in a Mauritian company which is listed on the Stock Exchange of Mauritius. She has also advised on the acquisition of a significant interest in a Nigerian bank by a consortium of investors with a transaction value of USD 350 million.
Bhavna also teamed up to advise the Government of Mauritius in assisting the setting up of a public private partnership with respect to the expansion and decongestion program for the road infrastructure in Mauritius for an indicative transaction value of US$566 million.
On a more recent note, Bhavna was part of the team which assisted with the very first listing of exchange traded fund in Mauritius. This first exchange traded fund tracks the price of gold. She also assisted on the second listing with the same issuer and this security tracks the price of platinum. As part of this assignment, Bhavna was called upon to advise the client and guide them through the new rules and provided assistance in terms of liaising with the regulatory bodies in the preparation and submission of all applicable documents.
Bhavna has also been involved in the setting up of a infrastructure fund, valued at USD 100 M, where she reviewed all the fund documents and obtaining the necessary authorisation from the regulatory body.

- Advised on the setting up and launch of a Mauritian limited partnership (USD 500 million) operating as an investment fund investing in infrastructure (and related industry) companies and projects headquartered in, or whose businesses or operations are located or conducted primarily within, Africa.
- Assisted on the establishment and launch of a private equity fund with transaction value of USD 500 million targeting investments in the West Coast of Africa.
- Advised on the initial public offering and listing of Attitude Property Limited on the Development & Enterprise Market of the Stock Exchange of Mauritius.
- Assisted on the setting up and launch of a USD 450 million investment fund investing in real estate developments in Sub-Saharan Africa.
- Advised on the establishment and launch of USD 300 million fund focusing on investments in middle growth companies in India agri-business.
- Assisted ABC Banking Corporation Ltd, a bank incorporated in Mauritius and licensed by the Bank of Mauritius, in respect of its listing on the Development & Enterprise Market of the Stock Exchange of Mauritius.
