Fazil Hossenkhan
PartnerFazil is a partner of BLC Chambers and has the general responsibility for funds, financial services and investment-related work. He has advised on the setting up of more than 100 Mauritius domiciled funds especially in the context of the Mauritius tax treaty network with Africa and Asia. His work consists principally of structuring, developing and setting up fund structures and other types of private investment vehicles, and this includes advising on regulatory and tax matters. He also regularly intervenes on deal structuring and transactional work, ongoing compliance issues, corporate re-structuring and listings and he has also assisted clients in investigations and enforcement actions.
Fazil has been consistently identified as a leading practitioner in his field. He has acted for a number of private equity houses, fund managers, high net worth and institutional investors such as LeapFrog Investment, African Infrastructure Investment Managers, Reliance, the VAM Funds, UTI, and Africa Capital Alliance. He has also advised local and international banks on various types of financing transactions. Fazil read law in the UK at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) and was called to the Bar of England and Wales. He holds a postgraduate diploma in banking and finance law.
Prior to joining BLC in 2005, Fazil was legal counsel for the Mauritius Financial Services Commission (FSC), and in that capacity he was heavily involved in the drafting and implementation of the current regulatory regime for Mauritius funds, securities regulation and financial services. He regularly consults with industry groups and regulators on legal developments and other topics, and contributes to various publications on his area of practice.
