Valerie Bisasur

Associate Lawyer

Valérie is experienced in the areas of banking, structured finance, Investment Funds and real estate. She also acts as solicitor for BLC in corporate litigation and insolvency proceedings. In a recent matter, Valerie acted for an applicant in a minority shareholders protection application under the Companies Act 2001. She also acted for a reputed offshore management company in a litigation dispute over the protection of trade mark rights and acting for a local international company over disclosure orders in a criminal matter.

Since joining BLC in 2008,Valérie has worked on some major transactions such as advising a major South African bank on the structuring of a project finance of EUR 20 Million and an equity injection in a cabling company in Reunion Island; advising a consortium of domestic and international banks on the financing of a real estate project in Seychelles of a transaction value of USD 50 Million and advising a group of international banks on a USD 30 Million debt restructuring for a major international hotel group.

She has further advised in the setting up and closing up of the Leapfrog Financial Inclusion USD 60 million micro-insurance fund and was part of the team who acted as local counsel to facilitate the setting up of a public/private partnership project with respect to enhancing local infrastructures at a value of USD 566 million and advised a multinational company on the acquisition of companies in various African countries including Mauritius in the petroleum sector at a transaction value of USD 1 billion.

More recently, Valérie has been actively involved in advising international banking institutions in the financing of a green-energy project in Mauritius, the first of its kind in the country. She has also been called upon to showcase her expertise in advising on the regulatory aspect of implementing Social Impact Bond in Mauritius. More specifically, Valérie was responsible for advising on a number of areas of law such as procurement law, financial services, contract law, securities, corporate law and tax.
